Shubhankar Sengupta, Founder, Managing Director & Chief Executive Officer

  • Shubhankar is a post graduate in rural management from IRMA with a degree in Economics from Presidency College, Kolkata.
  • Aashiyaan is Shubhankar’s second entrepreneurial venture, following a year-long ground research which he undertook to educate himself on the opportunities and challenges of housing for the poor.
  • In his earlier innings of nearly 20 years in microfinance, he founded Arohan Financial Services Pvt. Ltd., east India’s largest MFI and amongst the top 10 MFIs of India. Shubhankar was also involved in sectoral development work, having been a founding Board member of MFIN, the self-regulatory body of MFIs. He led the Credit Bureau Task Force of MFIN where he played an instrumental role in getting all MFIs to join the Credit Bureaus and utilize their services. He has also been a founding Board member of the Association of MFIs in West Bengal.

N.S. Kishore Kumar, Independent Director

  • A senior and eminently reputable financial services industry professional with more than three decades of high-quality experience in cross cultural milieus.
  • Proven achievements in leadership roles in corporate banking, SME finance, corporate finance and strategy, investment banking, capital markets, project finance, microfinance, financial inclusion and risk management.
  • Prior experience with State Bank of India, SBI Capital Markets Ltd, and HDFC Bank.

Geeta Goel, Independent Director

  • Geeta is an alumnus of Lady Shriram College and IIM Ahmedabad.
  • She had a decade long stint at Price water house Coopers in corporate finance in the first phase of her career. Since 2008 she has been with the Michael & Susan Dell Foundation (MSDF) and is currently Country Director, India. At MSDF, Geeta has played a key role in early stage investing in MFIs & HFCs and has served on the Boards of several financial inclusion players (some of which have evolved into Small Finance Banks today), including MFIs & HFCs. She currently leads the Dell Family Foundation operations in India, which has committed over INR 1,200 towards education and family economic stability programs and companies in India. The foundation’s active projects are delivering impact to over 8 million children and families in India. It has an active impact investment portfolio of over ~30 companies and 6 funds. Geeta is currently the Chair of Impact Investors Council, India, and in 2017 was recognized as India’s 30 Most Powerful Women in Impact by Business Today.

Alexander Remy, nominee Director of Oikocredit

  • Alex holds a degree in finance and international business from James Madison University, USA.
  • He has 20 years of experience across multiple roles in financial institutions. The early part of his career was in financial advisory, analytics and equity investments for institutions in Latin America & the USA. Some of his duties also included serving as Compliance and Operations Officer for a US-registered brokerage firm. Since 2012, Alex has worked with Oikocredit in the Netherlands implementing their strategy of investing in enterprises which create positive financial & social returns. Alex has gathered significant investment experience in India and Southeast Asia, and has been responsible for building up the equity portfolio in India focused on growth stage companies in Financial Inclusion and Sustainable Agriculture. Some of these include MFIs that have expanded pan-India and have transformed into Small Finance Banks. One of his main objectives is to facilitate capital and good governance practices to companies providing access to differentiated finance solutions to the lower income groups.

Arthur Dumas, nominee Director of Insitor

  • Arthur holds a master's degree in Banking and Finance from the University Paris 1 Pantheon-Sorbonne.
  • He started his career in financial advisory services having worked in London, Paris & Berlin. Prior to joining Insitor, Arthur worked as an investment officer for four years at Blue Orchard Finance, a commercial microfinance debt investment manager. During his time in BlueOrchard's Phnom Penh office, Arthur led and closed debt transactions totalling over USD 30 million with microfinance institutions in Cambodia, Philippines, Indonesia, Pakistan, East Timor, and Mongolia. In 2015, Arthur joined Insitor where he implements Insitor’s objective of making venture capital available to enterprises that serve unmet needs of low income communities.
